Like it or not, most of us will be working from home for a while. Many people will take this opportunity to catch up on Tiger King and other shows while they wait for the economy to start running again. However, that’s not the only way to pass this time.

The team at OptSus Marketing has been working online for more than a decade, welcome to our world!

The good news is, there are a lot of opportunities in the digital marketing world. Sure, it was nice to leave my house and work in the world around other people. Do you remember the person that would sit in your favorite coffee shop all day, hunched over a laptop? When I say that I have been working online for over a decade, it hasn’t always been from home – some times I would work in a local coffee shop. The biggest perk with digital marketing is that you can continue working from home even during this quarantine.

As an example, look at the internet traffic visiting food blogger websites to find new recipes. Also, consider the increase in at-home personal training services. There is even a significant spike in people searching for online ballet classes. Knowing how to position your products and services in front of these customers is how your business will get through this quarantine and there is a lot of work to be done in digital marketing.

Everything online revolves around search engine optimization (SEO). This is because every business must have their products and services found on a search engine. Most people think of Google when discussing SEO, however it is important to remember that Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and many other popular websites each have their own search algorithm which you can leverage through optimization. SEO is about more than just begin found in Google.

As the owner of OptSus Marketing, I started offering WordPress Help Desk events in RTP. That lead to me teaching courses through the NCSU Professional Development program. Due to in-person classes being canceled during the quarantine, these courses are being offered online for the first time ever – and you can enroll now.

You can choose from two courses to learn SEO:

  1. WordPress SEO
  2. Introduction to SEO

These are both entry-level classes designed to teach you the fundamentals of search engine optimization. You can take either or both of these classes, depending your goals after the class.

WordPress SEO

The WordPress SEO class is designed to teach students how to implement SEO best practices using the WordPress content management system (CMS). Given that 35% of the websites in the world are built using WordPress, it’s very important to know how to use this platform. If you’re a web designer or if you manage a WordPress website, you will want to take this class to improve the websites you are creating.

Introduction to SEO

With the Introduction to SEO class, students will go beyond the system used to implement SEO best practices. Instead, they will learn to think about the internet in terms of users, spiders, and content. You will begin to see how you can optimize content and the user experience to serve the needs of users and search engines. Regardless of the system used to build your website, these fundamental aspects of SEO will apply to every website.

Why Take Both?

As we mentioned above, 35% of the world’s websites are built with WordPress. Knowing how to implement SEO on that platform and understanding how to serve the needs of users and search engines will give you a strong foundation in SEO. Together, these classes are designed to give you the tools you need to plan, develop, and deploy content on your website using SEO best practices on one of the most popular platforms for developing your website.
